AstraZeneca is an Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical powerhouse that leads in sustainability by moving from promises to real data. They are a benchmark for three key reasons:
Aggressive decarbonization: They aim to be carbon neutral in their operations by 2025 and carbon negative throughout their supply chain by 2030.
Environmental investment: Their AZ Forest project will plant 225 million trees by the end of the decade.
Ethics of access: They stood out for delivering their COVID-19 vaccine on a non-profit basis to poor countries during the emergency.
In summary: they have integrated environmental and social impact directly into their business strategy, not just as an image campaign.
Goals
SDG 11 | Cities and
sustainable communities
Promote local consumption
A community that knows how to cook efficiently generates less urban waste and is more self-sufficient.
SDG 12 | Production and
responsible consumption
Halve food waste
Less waste means optimizing the natural resources invested in producing food.
SDG 13 |
Climate action
Reduce your carbon footprint
By cooking what you would normally throw away
What was done?
We met at the Estel Building for a zero-waste cooking demonstration with AstraZeneca . During the session, we joined their team in a hands-on learning experience on how to transform waste into valuable resources, preparing three zero-waste recipes : carrot top pesto, homemade hazelnut milk, and nutritious energy balls made with leftover okara.
Our purpose was to demonstrate that change begins in the kitchen, connecting these actions directly with SDGs 11, 12 and 13 to promote more sustainable cities and responsible consumption that curbs climate change.
After cooking, we shared strategies for integrating sustainable habits into daily life, such as prioritizing bulk purchases, using reusable containers, and supporting local businesses.
We also invited everyone to join our mission through the Go Zero Waste app , where you can find thousands of sustainable establishments and take on monthly challenges. With this event, we reinforced our commitment to guiding individuals and companies toward a zero-waste future, transforming environmental awareness into everyday actions with a real impact.

Other ideas for live cooking demonstrations with food leftovers
Holding a cooking demonstration focused on using up leftover ingredients is essential to transforming consumer perceptions of what we consider “waste” and turning it into a valuable resource . Here are some other recipe ideas:
✅ Broth from scraps : Boil vegetable tips and peels to make homemade soups.
✅ Bread croutons: Sauté stale bread with garlic to accompany salads.
✅ Peel chips: Bake washed potato peels with spices until crispy.
✅ Ginger infusion: Use the root trimmings to flavor the water.
