On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. , the Go Zero Waste App team participated in a talk about apps and initiatives that make responsible consumption and Zero Waste easier.
The event is part of the European Week for Waste Reduction 2019 (EWWR) , with hundreds of activities organized across Europe. This year, the main message is ” Change your ways , reduce your waste.”
Waste reduction is achieved through a range of actions, from preventing food waste to better recycling and buying in bulk. Today we’re talking about apps that help reduce waste.
List of apps that promote waste reduction
Too Good To Go
is a mobile app that lets you buy leftover food from stores at a better price before it spoils.
Imagine a restaurant with cakes or a supermarket with fruit that hasn’t been sold at the end of the day.
Instead of throwing them away, they package them in ” surprise packs ” that you can purchase at a very low price through the app. Users benefit from high-quality food at a reduced price, while establishments avoid wasting food and money.
The app displays a map of nearby businesses that have packs available and notifies you when a store you like launches a new offer. It’s a simple and effective solution for reducing waste .

Olio
This app is based on the collaborative economy . Olio ‘s goal is to connect neighbors so they can share food and household items they no longer need.
If you’re going on vacation and have leftover food in the fridge, or if you have an excess of produce from your garden, you can post it on Olio. Nearby residents can see the offer and contact you to pick it up for free.
Not only does it reduce waste , it also fosters a sense of community .

Percentil
Instead of buying new clothes, why not give existing ones a second life? Percentil is an online secondhand clothing store .
You can sell clothes you no longer wear and buy items at very low prices. The platform handles the quality of the clothing and the sales process.
It’s a way to promote the circular economy in the fashion industry, one of the most polluting on the planet.
