Reducing cities' negative environmental impact through smart waste management
PaaSiot contributes to this goal by deploying smart (IoT) dispensers and collectors in urban environments. This gives citizens convenient access to reusable packaging, reducing waste accumulation in cities and promoting a zero waste model in local commerce and take-away food services.

Shifting the disposable-packaging paradigm toward a Packaging as a Service model.
PaaSiot aims to decouple consumption from the generation of single-use plastic waste. Through blockchain and sensor-based traceability, the project ensures packaging goes through multiple life cycles, guaranteeing efficient resource management and encouraging consumption habits that prioritize reuse over disposal.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions linked to plastic manufacturing and transport
By avoiding the constant production of new single-use packaging (which depends on fossil fuels) and optimizing return logistics through real-time data, PaaSiot helps reduce the carbon footprint of the food distribution chain. Less plastic manufactured and less waste incinerated or sent to landfill translates directly into lower CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
Product description
Paasiot (Packaging as a Service IoT) is a system that connects an autonomous collection unit with smart packaging and a gamified app. This comprehensive solution enables efficient management of the entire life cycle of reusable containers, cups, and bags: from dispensing to return, washing, and reintroduction into circulation.
The system ensures traceability through blockchain technology, hygienic safety, and a smooth experience for both businesses and users.
The solution is currently in the prototype phase to validate its performance in real-world settings. As part of this, a pilot trial took place in Barcelona between March and June, with the participation of the cooperative supermarket Food Coop Barcelona and the restaurant La Peninsular, in the Barceloneta neighborhood

Go Zero Waste has developed Paasiot in collaboration with Barcelona-based technology and innovation companies, such as Lúcid and Sparsity Technologies, within the framework of the European CESAM project, which aims to drive sustainable and circular solutions in the agri-food sector.
The project sits within an evolving regulatory framework, at both European and national level, that reinforces waste prevention, promotes reuse, and opens the door to more structured return systems. In this context, Paasiot was created to facilitate the adoption of more sustainable consumption models aligned with regulatory goals.
Go Zero Waste is currently working on validating and scaling the solution, and remains open to collaboration with retail and HoReCa companies, as well as with other stakeholders interested in developing technology-based circular models.
