Client
Allianz
Allianz translates its commitment into concrete actions such as massive investment in renewable energy (being one of the largest owners of wind and solar farms in Europe) and the gradual phasing out of coal in its assets. Furthermore, they have transformed their insurance offerings by providing discounts for electric vehicles, creating social impact policies for essential infrastructure, and collaborating on projects to clean up plastic in the oceans. Internally, they operate with 100% green electricity, are electrifying their entire corporate fleet, and link their employees’ health challenges to large-scale reforestation in degraded areas.
On this occasion, they asked us to organize a workshop to learn recipes related to food waste reduction.
Goals
SDG 11 | Cities and
communities
sustainable
Urban waste management
Cooking with leftovers reduces the amount of organic matter that cities have to manage, decreasing costs and health problems in municipalities.
SDG 12 | Production and
responsible consumption
Waste reduction
We are taught to use parts of food that we usually discard (stems, skins, seeds).
SDG 13 |
Climate action
Low-emission diet
Promote techniques that require less energy (such as batch cooking or the efficient use of appliances) and the use of plant-based ingredients over animal proteins with a high water footprint.
What was done?
In a resourceful cooking workshop led by our expert chef , Allianz employees participated in an immersive experience where they transformed everyday ingredients into creative dishes using a variety of recipes designed for maximum use of food. The goal was to demonstrate that it’s possible to cook gourmet meals without generating waste, teaching techniques for incorporating parts of food that are normally discarded, such as peels, stems, and seeds. This initiative not only reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability but also equips the team with practical tools to reduce their environmental impact in their own home kitchens.
Showcooking
Why a workshop on using up leftovers in cooking?
A resourceful cooking workshop is a strategic tool that Allianz uses to transform complex sustainability concepts into everyday, tangible actions, aligning the insurer’s risk prevention philosophy with reducing environmental impact. By teaching people how to optimize food resources, the company not only educates them about the circular economy (SDG 12) and reducing methane emissions (SDG 13), but also fosters more resilient and conscious communities (SDG 11), demonstrating that sustainability begins with avoiding waste at home.
✅ Tangibility of Purpose: It allows abstract concepts such as the “circular economy” to become real and practical; employees not only hear about sustainability, but learn how to apply it immediately with resources they already have.
✅ Accessible Climate Action: It is one of the most direct ways to reduce personal and corporate carbon footprints, since preventing food from ending up in landfills curbs the emission of greenhouse gases such as methane.
✅ Culture of Efficiency: It fosters a resource optimization mindset that is applicable to any area of the company: learning not to waste in the kitchen trains the ability to seek maximum value in every business process.
✅ Well-being and Social Connection: Improves employee health and finances while building community. It’s a meaningful team-building activity that demonstrates the company’s commitment to the positive impact of its team on the local community.
