On June 5th (World Environment Day), we joined Zitro to organize a cleanup day in the Serra de Galliners mountain range, in Sant Quirze del Vallès. The impact in just one hour was as follows:
We collected 14kg of waste 🗑️ in the heart of nature.

Practical applications

Once we learned the importance of zero waste, we implemented climate action.

What was done?

In this sustainable team building activity we carried out the following activities:

🗣 A short talk about the importance of reducing waste at work and at home.

🍌 We offered participants seasonal, locally sourced fruit and snacks purchased from local businesses in Sant Quirze del Vallés.

🙌 We give each person a dustpan, a bag, and reusable gloves.

🏃‍♀️ We then went on a 1-hour circular walk, collecting all the trash we found. Much of it was on the side of the road or in the bushes in the forest.

⚖️ Then we weighed all the waste and separated out all the waste that could be placed in the plastic, paper, and glass containers.

🏆 We finished with a short activity, with ideas that can be implemented to be more sustainable, and the person who guessed the weight of all the collected waste won the prize of a watermelon.

Why a sustainable team building for waste collection in nature?

Performing this activity helps people foster the following good habits:

🌍 1. Environmental protection
Avoid pollution of soils, rivers, and oceans: Waste, especially plastics, can take hundreds of years to degrade and release toxic substances into the environment.

Preserve biodiversity: Land and marine animals can ingest or get trapped in waste, endangering their lives and disrupting the natural balance.

🧘‍♀️ 2. Human well-being
Cleaner and safer natural spaces: Enjoying nature without waste improves the experience for hikers, families, athletes, and visitors.

📚 3. Awareness and social example
Promotes individual and collective responsibility: Participating in collections helps raise awareness of the problem and promotes changes in habits.

♻️ 4. Promote the zero-waste movement and the circular economy.
Make visible the amount of waste we generate and the need to reduce, reuse, and recycle more efficiently.

🤝 5. Build community
Collections are an opportunity to connect with other committed people from the same company and create stronger bonds.
