Beach cleaning initiatives in Barcelona for businesses and educational institutions

We organize waste collection and sorting days on Barcelona beaches:  · · Team building with real impact for companies · · Environmental education with a fun experience for schools and institutes.

How do we organize your beach cleanup day?

Coordination and date selection

Together we’ll choose the Barcelona beach that suits you best and select the date.

Logistics and necessary permits

We take care of requesting the necessary permits since we are certified by the Barcelona City Council to organize the activity.

Welcome and brief introduction

We welcome the group, explain the safety rules, and give a short inspiring talk about the problem of waste and the positive impact we will have with the activity.

Start the action

The materials are given to each person (tweezers, bags and reusable gloves) and the beach cleaning begins.

Sorting, weighing, and citizen science

We separate the waste and analyze which items can be recycled well and which cannot.

Delivery of results and final group photo

We thank the group and send an impact report with the kilos removed (ideal for the company’s CSR report or the educational center’s notice board).

All necessary materials included in the activity

Examples of the impact of companies or schools on the Barcelona coastline

DHL

  • The DHL team, made up of people who came to Barcelona from different parts of the world, carried out a one-hour clean-up of Somorrostro beach.

  • In one hour, more than 7 kg of waste were collected, most of which were cigarette butts, beverage cans, and wipes.

  • After the activity we offered water and snacks to all participants and explained the impact that the activity had generated.

Escola Pia Sarrià Calassanç

  • We organized a beach cleanup for the 120 1st year ESO students from the Escola Pia Sarrià Calassanç on the Mar Bella beach in Barcelona.

  • We divided the students into groups of 6 people and each group had a person in charge of the CFGS Sports module to guide them and help them collect as much waste as possible in one hour.

  • The result: more than 35 kg of waste collected in one hour.

Much more than collecting waste: citizen science and awareness

A team that gathers together, grows together.

Outside of offices or classrooms, there are no hierarchies. You will work side by side for a common cause.

Real data for reports that matter

Every piece of waste you collect is sorted, weighed, and documented. You will receive an impact report with precise metrics.

Protect the Mediterranean from the first cigarette butt

Eighty percent of marine debris comes from land. A single cigarette butt can contaminate up to 50 liters of water.

Raising awareness is the heaviest waste product.

Seeing 47 cigarette butts in 20 meters of sand changes more habits than any PowerPoint presentation.

The impact doesn't end when the cleaning is over.

After the day, we suggest activities that can be done at home, at work, or while traveling.

You come with the people, we bring everything else

Municipal permits, reusable materials, liability insurance, and the people to coordinate the entire day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Barcelona’s beaches are public property and managed by the Barcelona City Council. Only entities accredited by XEAL (such as Go Zero Waste) can request a permit.

The minimum is 10 people and the maximum is 300. In large groups, sub-teams are organized by beach areas, each with an environmental educator who guides the collection and classification of waste.

In Barcelona, beach cleanups can be organized year-round thanks to the Mediterranean climate, but the best months are  March to June  and  September to November . During the summer, beaches are under concession for recreational use, and permits are more restrictive. For schools, the April-June period coincides with the third term and can be integrated as a school field trip. For companies, September and October are ideal for a return-to-work activity.

Waste is not only collected: it is  sorted, weighed, and documented  by type (plastics, cigarette butts, glass, textiles, fishing gear, etc.). This information is used to prepare an impact report with real data that companies can incorporate into their CSR reports and that educational institutions can use as teaching material in the classroom. Once sorted, the waste is delivered to an authorized waste management company for proper disposal or recycling.

Each cleaning has a fixed price depending on the duration, number of participants and any extras you want to include.
