The beginnings of the idea
Like you, we grew up thinking that by recycling we were taking care of the planet.
But we became aware and, like many others, we came to the conclusion that to contribute to a broader change, we had to modify our consumption habits.
Reducing the amount of trash, plastic, and waste we generate is just one way to do it, and it’s what’s currently called living a “zero waste” lifestyle.
The best waste is the waste that isn’t generated .
The idea originated from our desire to find milk without cartons in our neighborhood.
When you start getting into the zero-waste world, you gradually replace everything you buy with alternatives . Very important: do it slowly and without getting overwhelmed.
Reuse is key to zero waste
The challenge: to live without generating waste.
That’s how we found ourselves one day facing the challenge of buying something as everyday as milk while avoiding the typical plastic containers or tetrabrik.
We had to do some research and finally found an eco-friendly alternative in a glass bottle.
This research sparked part of the idea behind the Go Zero Waste App: to make it easier to discover alternatives near you.
Think globally, act locally: from the neighborhood to the world.
This is how we set out to drastically reduce the waste we generated in our daily lives.
The final step was when we decided to go grocery shopping for the week in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona and return home with absolutely no plastic. This was the result:
An imperfect path, will you join us?
Living without using plastic or generating waste doesn’t happen overnight. Even so, it’s easier than you think.
Zero Waste living is purely a matter of habits : one day you carry a cloth bag in your purse, another you ask for your coffee to be served to you in your reusable cup… and so, little by little, you change small gestures that can make a difference on a global level.
And never think that your actions don’t matter: every plastic bottle you don’t use is one less bottle that can stay in nature for hundreds of years.
Why do we want to make the Go Zero Waste App a reality?
- Join us on your journey towards a lower-waste lifestyle with tips, challenges, and helpful information. How? Through an app on your phone.
- Facilitate the location of alternatives to packaged products near you, promoting local commerce and responsible consumption.
- Connecting people and initiatives working in the same direction, from Instagrammers to committed companies and administrations.
We need you
We have the passion, the enthusiasm, the desire, and the talent to do it.
But we need a push to be able to develop the first version of the app, which will be available for free on iOS and Android.
To that end, we have launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise the necessary funds.
Will you help us make it happen? If the answer is yes,
