We end 2023 by reviewing the actions and collaborations that have marked our path this year.

Go Zero Waste pursues the triple objective of educating, facilitating and innovating for a life without waste. This is how we have worked to achieve it in 2023:

1. Educate

During the last 12 months we have continued with our outreach work to raise awareness around Zero Waste, the Circular Economy and responsible consumption, with talks, workshops and educational activities for all audiences, led by our co-founder and communications manager Magda Cebrián.

In the field of companies, we highlight the in-person talks at the Extia headquarters in Barcelona or the exhibition “The circular path of plastics” that we created for the Allianz offices in Madrid
and Barcelona during its EcoWeek.

We have also worked with several educational centers such as the Don Bosco School in Errentería (Gipúzcoa) or the French Lyceum in Barcelona to teach young people tricks and examples for a more sustainable life. In August we had a visit from a group of Japanese students from Ritsumeikan University, who learned firsthand about the reality of waste management in our city and the initiatives related to Zero Waste that exist in our immediate environment.

At the municipal level, we have carried out a dozen face-to-face activities in several Catalan towns within the framework of our ‘Move for zero!’ campaigns with city councils. Among them we highlight several community clean-ups of natural environments, a cooking workshop in Manlleu or an exchange market with all primary school students in Les Cabanyes.

Finally, we have held two talks on entrepreneurship with Imagine Creativity Center and the Faculty of Economics and Business of the UAB, following our desire to promote and support entrepreneurial ideas that seek to create a positive impact from companies for society and the planet.

2. Facilitate

At Go Zero Waste we have always proposed to accompany those people who want to take action to prevent and reduce waste, facilitating a path often full of doubts and barriers to overcome.

For this reason, in 2023 we have continued to bet on our challenge campaigns called ‘Move for zero!’ with city councils (Manlleu, Blanes and Les Cabanyes), companies and organizations (Findasense, Secartys, Talent Garden) and educational centers (University of Torino, Leioa Hospitality School).

On the other hand, we have forged a new strategic alliance with the consulting firm We go zero to present Zero Waste 365™ for businesses, a complete package of services to integrate Zero Waste into the organizations’ strategy.

Starting from data collection, through the detection and implementation of solutions, to the involvement of all employees, we have devised a comprehensive proposal to accompany companies on this path.

This new solution allows those committed companies to make the progress towards zero waste measurable by involving the entire team in the process.

3. Innovate

In the field of innovation, we have entered a new phase of development of our PaasIoT prototype, a reusable packaging dispenser created with the aim of promoting reuse in environments such as markets or canteens. In October we installed a model at the Basque Culinary Center in Donosti as part of a project with the Provincial Council of Guipúzcoa.

That same month, we also began our first participation in a European project. This is CESAM, Circular Economy for Sustainable Agriculture in the Mediterranean, and brings together different companies and regional organizations from Catalonia, Occitania and the Balearic Islands.

The Circular Economy and Sustainable Solutions for Agri-Food in the Mediterranean (CESAM) project brings together 9 partners from the European regions of Occitania, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands around shared objectives for the agri-food sector: Circular Economy and Sustainability

Advances in the world of Zero Waste

The global context leaves us with a bittersweet feeling, between frustration and hope. 2023 has been the year of the beginning of the UN plastics treatyspan,   and that of a COP28 that sought to announce the beginning of the end of fossil fuels, colliding with the interests of the oil sector, widely represented by the host country, Arab Emirates.

We have also closely followed the evolution of the
new European packaging regulations (PPWR), Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, por sus siglas en inglés, donde se ha puesto de manifiesto la acción de los lobbies de la indústria del consumo para frenar o diluir sus medidas más ambiciosas.

In the Spanish area,
The deployment of several laws should allow the advancement of zero waste thanks to the involvement of many actors:

Now there is a long way to go to ensure that the legislation is complied with without giving up those measures that can truly contribute to progress in terms of reduction and prevention. We highlight the initiative to promote compliance with the Waste Law promoted by Retorna with the support of more than a hundred entities throughout the territory, including Go Zero Waste.

We say goodbye to the year aware that there is still much to do and with the desire to continue being part of a change that does not lose sight of waste prevention and the advancement of reuse to create a fairer economy that has a place within the limits of the planet. and make responsible use of resources. We continue.
