Blanes City Council
Blanes City Council , with the support of the Girona Provincial Council, is aligning its public policies with the Sustainable Development Goals, thereby improving its internal and external management in a more responsible manner. It is also engaging citizens, organizations, and the commercial sector in achieving these goals.
With this goal in mind, the Move for Zero Waste campaign was launched in Blanes at the end of October, offering 30 challenges to the public for waste reduction and prevention. Participants distributed more than 7,000 reusable containers and more than 60 gift cards worth a total of €500.

What was done?
Selection of the challenges
Several meetings were held with the Blanes City Council’s Economic Promotion and Waste team to co-create challenges and actions that could be implemented during the campaign to maximize participation and environmental impact.
Selection of the awards
To promote local commerce, it was decided that all prizes would be gift cards to be spent at participating businesses with values aligned with sustainability and local sales.
Creation of a communication campaign
We designed a website explaining the challenges, campaign objectives, and potential prizes. We then visited stores to distribute informational posters and flyers, and held several information points throughout the campaign.

Inclusive campaign
In addition to launching the challenges through the app, the public was invited to participate in an analog and experiential way through a beach cleanup organized jointly with the Blanes City Council’s Environment Department.
Booklet for participating establishments and markets
To combat the digital divide, a booklet was designed with 10 challenges that could be completed analogically and then handed out to the city’s Economic Promotion Department.
The booklets were distributed at Blanes markets and participating establishments.
When a user completed the challenge at a store, they received a stamp validating their achievement. Once the participant had completed all the challenges they could, the booklet was handed out at the Blanes Economic Promotion offices.
Media presence
The Moving Towards Zero Waste campaign in Blanes attracted the attention of several media outlets, which helped us publicize the challenges and encourage participation.
